Friendship Legacy:
I want to be remembered as a strong and independent girl who still had a soft girly side.

Something You Should Know About Me: When I’m involved in sports, I need to be the best player on the team.

Unreasonable Parents
Steven asked me to go to the end of the year dance with him! I’m psyched! But my parents are being all weird about letting me ‘go out’ with him. They don’t care about the dance, but they object to the party afterwards at a hotel downtown. I can’t believe they are being so unreasonable! My brother was allowed to go out with any girl he wanted at my age.

I’m the youngest of three girls, so I got my older sisters to speak up for me.  They convinced my parents to let me go on dates when I was fifteen, a year earlier than them.  Of course, I ‘owed’ them big time!

My parents were really controlling, so I just pretended I didn’t even care about guys.  Once I got my driver’s license I snuck around behind their backs. Now I wish we could have been more open about it.

I invited my boyfriend to hang out at my house a lot before I asked my parents to let us go out on dates.  They knew him and liked him, so when I asked if we could go to his house after prom party, they said okay.

I have an idea. Take a poll among your friends on what they think girls should be allowed to date, and then ask all of the adults you know the same question. Write down all the results and talk them over with your parents. Maybe if they hear other people’s opinions on dating it will help you guys come to an agreement.
