Respect
I’ve been doing really well in school now that I’ve gotten used to my teachers. My grades are good, not straight A’s but no C's or D's. I’m trying my hardest and stay out of trouble… not like some of the kids in my neighborhood. Now I look at them and think sometimes they do things just to get approval from their friends. I want to fit in, too, but I want to be respected for who I am and what I stand for, not what other people expect me to be like.

I know what you mean. It really bugs me when girls our age are portrayed as boy crazy, or as mean and competitive. Everytime a ‘girl fight’ is glamorized in the media, it really gets to me. I think that's is why some girls act the way they do.

My mom says respect is a two-way street: you have to give respect to gain respect. It's one thing I really agree with her about! People don’t need to agree on everything, but understanding what someone else believes and accepting that they have freedom of choice is important if you want to get anywhere in this world.
