Friendship Legacy: When they think of high school, I hope my friends will remember me as steady and caring.
Something You Should Know About Me: I am upset if I don’t get A’s in every subject because I won’t get into a good college. |

Pressure
Because I'm smart, I feel a lot of pressure from my parents and teachers. My parents expect me to automatically get straight A's so I can get a scholarship to a good college. My teachers pressure me, too, because I'm a good student so they expect me to always have the right answers and all my work done on time. One time in Chem lab, my teacher assigned me to be partners with a guy I had a crush on so I could help him improve his grade. It was so embarrassing!
I want to talk to my parents and teachers about the pressure I feel, but I'm not sure what to say--like, "You expect too much of me". I want to be assertive and let them know how I feel without being disrespectful. When you have *issues* with your parents, what do you do about it?

I talk to them about it, because I need to let them know that I'm upset. Sometimes my mom and I get really loud with each other, but talking things out is only way I can get her to understand me.

I'm the only kid in my family too. There's no one else who understands what it's like. My friends all have other brothers and sisters to help them communicate with their parents, but I don't. So I'm stuck talking to them first.

In some situations, I talk to my friends first, and then sometimes to my aunts. Since my parents respect them, they can talk to my mom and dad for me and explain how I feel.

My parents were really control freaks about my clothes in middle school because I was sort of 'goth.' We had a lot of arguments about it, but then one day I started talking to another girl who dressed like I did. It helped a lot to know someone else had the same problems, and made me less angry with my parents. Posted Saturday March 22, 6:36pm by gothlite
