HS - A New Start
So things have been way better for me now that I’m in high school. Right away, I met a really nice girl in my photography class. Her name is Kelly and she’s a grade ahead of me, but she doesn’t care. We like a lot of the same things. We started hanging out after school, and her friends became my friends too. One guy in our crowd, Adam, has a really cool tattoo, and Kelly’s mom is getting a tattoo next week. My parents would never let me get a tattoo, but I’m not sure what they would say if I went ahead and did it, then told them later. Most of the time, I try to not cause any more problems because they’ve been through so much with my sister. But hey, the tattoo’s no big deal—I can live without it. Thanks to Kelly, I have a lot of people to hang out with, and they don’t really care what I look like or what I wear. How cool is that?

It's not just tattoos that are all the rage at my school--lots of people have multiple piercings, too. One of my friends has her tongue pierced, and she's really pushing me to do the same, but I'm not sure how I feel about "body art." Seems a little extreme--not sure why kids want to have it.

My boyfriend wants me to get a tattoo with his name on it. To be honest, I've been thinking of getting a little tattoo myself someplace private, but he's talking about something everyone can see...and that will never go away.

I read somewhere that about a fourth of teens have a tattoo, now, but don't know that it's for me. (I don't like pain, among other things!) Some girls have parents with tattoos or piercings, so they are more inclined to give permission, but mine would never sign off on that!
