Walking the Red Carpet
My day as an Entertainment Reporter

The Call
My day as a red carpet reporter was one of the most exciting days in my life! When I got the phone call from GSUSA that I was chosen to interview fellow Girl Scout and movie star Abigail Breslin, I was so happy that I couldn't wait for the day to come. When the day finally did arrive, I was so hyper and jittery!

Warming Up
Well, for practice, Melissa (the GSUSA representative), Rebecca (the other girl reporter), and Jim (the camera guy) headed to the AMC theater located in Times Square, New York, to interview some of the Girl Scouts waiting for the 3:30 pm premiere of Kit Kittredge: An American Girl. Rebecca and I were handed the microphone and began our debut as reporters for Girl Scouts TV. Melissa and Jim kept reminding Rebecca and I to "smile and be excited," and no worries, we did just that. When we were done interviewing the Girl Scouts, we went back inside AMC to see Abigail introduce the film. That's when I really started getting into it, a lot, smiling and all.  I was like, "Hey! I'm Emma!" and was really enthusiastic.

Action!
Then it was time to hit the red carpet! I have to admit that I was a little nervous at first, but I smiled and remained excited. When we got to the red carpet, it was so cool! We had our own spot reserved just for us. It was like Fox, Girl Scouts, and then Fox 5. Then the magic started happening. The celebrities started walking down the red carpet. I talked to Jane Krakowski, Madison Davenport, Wallace Shawn, Patricia Rozema, The Clique Girlz, and the star of the night—Abigail Breslin—who was great! The one celebrity I was really waiting for though was Max Thieriot. As soon as he came up to me, I said, "Hi, I'm Emma from Girl Scouts TV. I love you!" (Not very journalistic, but I just couldn't help it). When I interviewed him, my hand was shaking so much. All the celebrities I met were really nice and polite and answered our questions really well.

The Perks!
The bonus to working the red carpet was I had the opportunity to see the movie and go to the after party. The movie was great. It was funny, sensitive, and in some parts, it made you tear up a little. The character played by Abigail, Kit Kittredge, showed the qualities every person should have: leadership, courage, honesty, friendliness, caring and determination, just like all Girl Scouts are. It's a heartwarming movie, and I recommend that anyone from the ages 1 to 100 should see it. After the movie, it was a mob scene, with everyone wanting to get close to the celebrities. The good thing was that I got an autograph from Max! After that, we went straight to the after party. There was music, plenty of food and a lot of people networking and having a good time.

The first thing we did when we arrived was get a bite to eat, because we were all so hungry. You can build up quite an appetite working the red carpet. Next, we went upstairs and I got my picture taken with Kit (the doll, not Abigail). Then we went into the Daisy Room and hung out with all the celebrities. The celebrities were great and I got four more autographs, which was really cool! Soon it was time to go, because the party was ending and Vicki (my Girl Scout troop leader) and I had to get to her car. When I left, I was a little bummed, but then I remembered that it had been a day filled with great memories and I had many wonderful mementos to help me always cherish that day. I would like to thank Girl Scouts for this wonderful once in a lifetime opportunity.
